Hip Warehouse District pizzeria that's a perennial favorite with the late-night set.
  • Hoagies and pastas
  • Vegetarian/vegan alternatives
  • Voted top pizza in Minneapolis
Established in 1993, Pizza Luce began as a small space in Minneapolis's historic Warehouse District. Over the years, our award-winning gourmet pizza, delivery service and late-night dining have earned exceptional customer loyalty. At Pizza Luce, we take great pride in the quality of our food. We believe that good food comes from fresh ingredients, original recipes and happy cooks. We are strongly dedicated to maintaining the diversity of vegetarian and vegan alternatives on our menu (along with the carnivorous items as well, of course).

Editorial Review for Pizza Luce
Hip Warehouse District pizzeria that's a perennial favorite with the late-night set.

In Short
Located at the epicenter of Minneapolis' trendy Warehouse District, Pizza Luce is a favorite with the neighborhood's young, savvy singles. This wildly popular restaurant is a hybrid--it's a crowded, noisy bar scene on weekends and a low-key family friendly pizza joint during the week. Sure, you can get an ordinary pepperoni or sausage pie, but why would you, with the menu's variety of out-there choices include baked potato pizza and pizza Florentine?

Insider Tips
Save Money
Save some dough with half-priced beer taps and well drinks every day (4pm to 7pm) during happy hour.

The Extras
Have a wheat allergy? The pizza joint is now using gluten-free dough from St. Paul neighbors Coogi, a bakery famous for its delicious gluten-free sweets and treats. You can do a make-your-own pie, including all the meats your heart desires. Or go for the gluten-free garlic mashed potato pie, loaded with buttery baby reds.

When to Go
After-bar pizza cravings? The kitchen is open until 3am on weekends.

  2. This place can go F@#K OFF!! The "Owner" just told me so...
I ordered for delivery at 1:20 am to my apartment, at 2:30am I called back to 612-333-7359 to inquire on my order....without any hesitation, the man who answered put me on hold and another man picked up and told me "Don't EVER order from us again, I f@cken hate you"...."I will never deliver to you again"! and yada, yada, yada....I just sat there with the (my cell phone) on my ear and tried to interject, but he wouldn't stop. I have no idea what happened, but, I have myself and 4 others here STILL waiting for something to eat (we play poker every monday night, so we get hungry sometimes). Again, I don't have any idea what the deal is, other than being completed blind sided by the dumba@ses that work and THINK they OWN PIZZA LUCE. Yeah, whatever. When I called back, well he must have informed EVERYONE or else he was having a really bad menstrual?? But another man put the phone down and I could here the a@@hole in the background telling him to tell her "We don't want to deliver to you, we NEVER want to deliver to you, DON'T ever call us AGAIN!" This is the hardest part. I have lived dt mpls since 1998 and have ordered from Pizza Luce numerous times in all the years. In the past year ( we moved to Golden Valley a year ago to build a house) we have ordered from Pizza Luce maybe 5x at the most....NEVER ANY PROBLEMS (minus the extremely long human hair found in the spaghetti I ordered last march ;() and to have someone just go off on me for no apparent reason, other than being short staffed or overworked, maybe just being a complete asshole...well he ( or them) have a lot to learn about business and retaining customers AND keeping a job. When I called rignt back on my land line, I received the "Thank you for calling pizza luce, how can I helpyou" bull@hit, but I still haven't figured out why the "owner"---YES, this man said he was the owner...(Yeah, the owner of a pizza delivery auto probably) and he was never going to deliver to me again....I have been waiting over an hour...no food, no call from them that they were here to deliver, no food, no reason as to why the dumb f@ck delivery man never rang or EVER SHOWED UP!!! I am on the 4th floor, right above the drive where any and all people come thru an I NEVER received a call from the phantom driver with our food, nor did I/us ever see a person (NONE, this place isn't huge, but after 1 year here and ordering delivery from everywhere) drive up or into the area. ???? I WOULD NOT EAT PIZZA LUCE!!! THEY DON'T KNOW THAT I Have my phone "tapped" and when I did get some punk on the phone when I called back, they told me to call "MIKE" at 612-333-7359--apparently they have different owners or partners working different shifts....Funny how this will all work out....everyone here (that's 6 people, which 4 live within a couple of blocks) WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!!! Have fun finding new jobs A@@holes.....Oh yeah, I'm pretend to be gainfully employed in a snooty, snoot job//////doesn't matter who (goldie73, 05/19/2009)

  3. great after-bar food
This place if pretty urban, if you will. Think lot's of urban people and not the good kind. Additionally, I find this pie over rated and expensive. I like that they have the quick serve/by the slice area. It's great for the afterbar. Bring cash bc you have to buy a ticket from security. If you have a credit card, they give attitude. Service is EXTREMELY random. Some employees are fantastic and some are morons. Delivery is nice but can take 45-90 minutes. (hage0269, 01/29/2009)

  18. PIZZA LUCE= Amazing pizza, great service, and fun family friendly atmosphere!!!
Luce is the filet mingon of all pizza restaurants. I have been a fan of the locally owned restaurant for years and have yet to have one bad thing to say. The pizza and appetizers are great along with a really good wine list. Very resonabley priced and fun atmosphere... ...lets not forget the year ..2008..., folks with tattoos and unique style can be VERY successful and most importantly happy!!!! If your a judgemental prude then this is not your spot, maybe go for delivery. And any review I have ever read where there is actually a complaint I just have to think that is from a person who complains about everything and is never satisfied, get over yourself! The tons of hype is one thing this place does not live up to. I've tried this place a number of times and I just don't see it. The pizza base is where the problems begin for me, and the toppings do it no favours either. Flavourless... 20. UNDERCOOKED FOOD!
RE: Delivery - I ended up with cold soggy undercooked pizza dough with cold veggies and meat toppings. Gross! I had to recook the pizza every time before my family could eat it. I even tried to order "thin" crust. Instead I got thick crust not fully cooked throughout the pizza. The chicken wings have been under cooked, whereas the meat does not come away from the bone. Had to recook also. Serious health concerns about this food. Buyer Beware! Luce' may been the "rage" in the early 2000's. "Not" no more. I have not wasted time "eating in" their resturants. Sounds like they have a lot of "punks" with attitude waiting on you. Undercooked food can make a person "stuck up." CARROT CAKE IS GREAT! (gyrlygamer, 05/22/2008)

  23. Good pizza, incredibly fast
I was trapped at a hotel downtown (I won't mention any names, but it rhymes with um... Barriott?), and they had stopped serving their in-room menu early (why, I don't know).... anyhow, the desk clerk recommended this place, and the pizza was very good. I had the "Luce", which had good flavor. Didn't particularly care for the crust, but the wife did, so maybe I'm just picky. If you have the choice between pizza luce and papa johns or pizza hut -- get luce every time. Delivery took literally 8 minutes, which is ridiculous and welcomed. (seeyaupthere, 07/28/2007)

  24. Good Pizza, TERRIBLE service!
The pizza is very tasty, but on 2 different occasions, we sat for 15 minutes while being completely ignored before we just got up and left. Nobody made eye contact, nobody said "I'll be right with you, or anything." In fact, the last time (which is coincidentally the last time), the hostess even came by to pick up our menus and we hadn't even gotten a drink yet. I would have been able to let it go if they were busy, but they weren't!. 2 different occasions this happened! But if you can handle the awful service, the pizza is delicious. (joshp213, 06/16/2007)

  25. Same ingredients - different pizza!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pizza Luce. However...I just want to vent about it for one second. I always order the same pizza: Bianca with sun dried tomatoes and chicken - very light on the cheese and you can let the sun dried tomatoes burn a bit on the top. (Yes, I am that annoying person!) So I always take a moment to explain how I like it...and the Luce in Uptown has no problem fulfilling my order every time - the pizza is always amazing! But each time I order from the downtown Luce (I won't call again after today) they always manage to provide the most inconsistent pizza. I had no idea a Bianca with sun-dried tomatoes and chicken could be made in so many ways. Today - expecting the pizza I imagined (light cheese) all of my ingredients are buried in cheese and the sun-dried tomatoes are wet, crust barely cooked. We had to put the pizza in the oven to cook it a bit more... Sorry to be a complainer - but you know - you fork out your dough and expect what you order... (bpettis, 04/23/2007)

  26. OK pizza, service sub par especially at uptown location
The pizza's so-so. Lame crust, unexciting sauce, but with a wide variety of toppings. Vegan/vegetarian options are a plus. The artichoke dip and desserts are great. The problem is the service. It's barely OK at their downtown and Franklin Ave locations, but the Uptown restaurant's service is consistantly terrible; orders made wrong, rude and absent servers. Truely awful. A good tasting pie with excellent sauce. Outside crust is very below average. Plus, underneath the cheese and toppings, the crust is, more often than not, way undercooked. Spendy also. The crust here is disgusting. Conveyer-belt crust that is soggy and undercooked. The toppings arent that great either. They used to hand chop fresh ingredients & they dont anymore. There isnt one shining entree on the entire menu. The crowd gets tiring too, since at least half of them are either current or former employees of Luce. And what is with the punk/skate look that is (still!) dominant there? That looks last tolerable moment was in 1990! Its like being stuck in a room with women who never let go of their big 80s hair.and it feels embarrassingly Midwestern. (cdweller, 06/01/2005)

Unfortunately there aren't more late night dining options in the Cities. I've only been once- and won't go back. Granted it was bar-rush time, but I would have expected alot better everything from the place I always hear so much about. The place was packed- elbow to elbow. I felt like I was on a crowded dance floor at The Lone Tree in Mpls. The place was too smokey for me (and I'm a smoker!). The menu also has a good selection of meat-free choices. I have 2 complaints... 1. the wait staff are Punk Rockers, which is fine, but they are pretentious snobs with a "better than you" attitude... 2. both are incredibly loud, you can barely talk to the person across from you. Maybe I just don't get it. While Pizza Luce has a few great menu items (I love their focaccia katerina with goat cheese), their pizza is not one of them. It's edible, but sub-par. Reminds me of the old joke, "Sex is like pizza. Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good." Good for a pizza run after midnight, but otherwise there's far better pizza to be had in Minneapolis. This restaurant has some of the tastiest foods and great (hot) wait staff. The customers along with the staff are very diverse. It's a great place to head to on a friday night...but you may want to go a bit early to ensure a table. (penylane27, 11/01/2002)

  64. A Pizza of Heaven
Okay, yes, this place has a little "hipper than thou" attitude. But, so what? It's not insufferable and I kind of like that. They've got a pretty good caesar salad and wonderful pizza. The crust is a perfect compromise between "not too thick" and "not too thin." I had a barbeque chicken pizza and it was great. My one quibble . . . I had a Kettle One martini that was drenched with vermouth. Sorry, but every single bar should know what "extra dry" means. That sort of bothered me, but it was almost completely redeemed by the meal. (jpomalley, 10/02/2002)

  69. Good beer and food
Open til 3:00am on Friday and Saturday!!! Food is very good and affordable the beer selection is one of the best in the Twin Cities. The Shrimp Pesto is my favorite pizza ever and the greek salad rules. The downtown location is far better than the uptown location in both quality and service. (gtreptow, 08/14/2002)

  71. good pizza, bad manners
Great pizza, decent prices. Some employees have been rude, but most are usually polite. Not somewhere I would seek out exclusively--knowing that the closest parking lot is $10-15.00--but a good place to stop for some pizza if your in the area. (icedinogirl, 08/11/2002)

  77. Can't go wrong!
When I moved to the Twin Cities two years ago, I tried every pizza place that would deliver in the Uptown area. No one even came close to Piza Luce! They are polite on the phone, give no hassle over checks, always get special orders correct, and definitely have the yummiest crust of any pizza I have ever eaten. I have tried almost all of their pizzas, including vegan and vegetarian, and have yet to find one that isn't delicious. Pizza Luce serves up gourmet pizza at a bargain price! 81. Personal favorite
I guess it all comes down to what an individual is in to, tastewise. For my money, Pizza Luce is the best pizza you're going to get outside of Chicago and New York. Not to mention everything else they make! The Minneapolitan wings are perfect. Sandwiches, salads, (drool) gaaaahhhh!!!!!!!! I MUST HAVE SOME NOW!!!!!!!!!! Which reminds me, if you're going to pick it up, bring a friend who can either run in or wait with the car running; parking (legally) usually requires a hike. (goaty66, 07/20/2002)

I have probably eaten at Luce 1000 times, usually on my lunch (5pm) and sometimes post bar. The service is junk, yes, but this is a pizza place. I come for the pizza. I like garlic and cheese and get it. Honestly, avoid the dining room, get a slice and take a walk. (IIII, 05/27/2002)
